The Azerbaijan e-visa for Pakistanis
Pakistani passport holders can apply for Azerbaijan's e-visa through the official ASAN Visa portal, evisa.gov.az. You fill in a short form, upload a passport scan and a photo, and pay by card.
When we last checked there were two speeds:
- Standard, processed in about 3 working days.
- Urgent, processed within a few hours, for a higher fee.
Both give you a single entry of up to 30 days. Fees and processing times change, so always check the official portal, and avoid third-party sites that charge a markup. Our Baku trip includes visa assistance, so we help you apply.
When to go
- April to June and September to October are the most comfortable months, mild and sunny.
- July and August are hot, but good if you want the beaches on the Absheron Peninsula.
- Winter is cold and windy. Baku is called the City of Winds for a reason.
What to see in Baku
The Old City (Icherisheher)
The walled Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside you'll find the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, along with narrow lanes, carpet shops and tea houses.
The Flame Towers and the Boulevard
The three Flame Towers light up at night with moving flames. Walk the long Caspian seaside boulevard at sunset, and visit Fountain Square in the evening.
Gobustan and the mud volcanoes
An hour south of the city, Gobustan has thousands of Stone Age rock carvings, also a UNESCO site. Nearby are Azerbaijan's bubbling mud volcanoes, which you reach in old Ladas. It is silly and wonderful.
The Absheron fire sites
Ateshgah, the fire temple, and Yanar Dag, a hillside that has been burning for decades from natural gas seeping out of the rock, show why Azerbaijan is called the Land of Fire. Go to Yanar Dag after dark.

Tips for Pakistani travellers in Azerbaijan
- Currency: the Azerbaijani manat (AZN). Cards work in Baku, but carry cash for markets and taxis.
- Taxis: use a ride-hailing app like Bolt or agree the fare first.
- Language: Azerbaijani and Russian are common. English works in hotels and central Baku.
- Food: halal food is widely available. Try plov, qutab and a proper tea service.

Do Pakistanis need a visa for Azerbaijan?
Yes, but you can get it online. Pakistani passport holders are eligible for the ASAN e-visa, applied for through the official portal before you fly.
How many days are enough for Baku?
Four to five days covers the city, Gobustan and the fire sites comfortably. Add a couple of days if you want to see Gabala or Sheki in the mountains.
Is Baku expensive?
Less than most European cities. Flights are the biggest cost, and travelling in a group brings flights and hotels down.
